Speakers: Zsuzsa Márka and Szabolcs Márka, Columbia Astrophysics Laboratory and Department of Physics, Columbia University in the City of New York
Abstract: Scientific and technological breakthroughs, along with the historical lessons that have shaped how we think, feel, and connect with the art of doing science, offer a powerful lens for exploring not only Nature, but also the nature of scientific progress itself. The joy of discovery is a rare and exhilarating journey. Through the emerging lens of comprehensive, synergistic astrophysics, we will explore how research, insight, and curiosity intertwine to shape technological innovation as an enduring pillar of global human imagination. In this talk, we will share an embedded view of the journey to this year's Nobel Prize in Physics, awarded to Francis Halzen "for decisive contributions to the IceCube Neutrino Observatory and the discovery of high-energy neutrinos of astrophysical origin."
Zsuzsa and Szabolcs Márka lead Columbia University's IceCube group. Beyond contributing to the detection of astrophysical neutrinos, they also work in gravitational wave science. Their vision is to achieve a holistic understanding of the Universe through pioneering multimessenger observations, crafting enabling instruments, and unveiling the mathematics and methods that help humanity grasp and understand the enigmatic Cosmos. They believe that Science can make all of us live happier, healthier, and longer lives, while engaging in art and exploration can make that longer life truly worth living!

Two presentations this evening: first, Charles J. Vörösmarty, PhD on his upcoming sabbatical to iASK in Köszeg. Next, we are excited to host young Hungarian filmmaker Máté Novák, who will give a showing and discussion of his new science fiction film, Now I See.
We have also invited representatives from the Liszt Institute and Tulipan Foundation to give introductions on their respective groups and affiliated activities during this meeting.

About the Speaker: Ákos Orbán is an architect, researcher, and co-founder of Noumen Studio, currently pursuing doctoral research at the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design in Budapest. His work focuses on neuroarchitecture, an interdisciplinary field examining how built environments shape human experience through insights from cognitive neuroscience and environmental psychology. As a Fulbright Visiting Researcher, he is conducting research at the Visual Neuroaesthetics Lab at the City College of New York.
